Comparing Lumens and Wattage of LED, Incandescent, CFL, and Halogen Light Bulbs

When shopping for lighting fixtures online or at your local lighting showroom near you, the topic of bulb wattage always comes up. No matter if you’re just looking for a replacement bulb or if your looking for a new chandelier for a bedroom or dining room, bulb wattage is always a hot topic. With LED bulbs requiring less wattage to produce brighter light lumens compared to standard incandescent, CFL, or Halogen bulbs, many people get confused when they see the low amount of watts LED bulbs have. It is a common belief that because the LED bulbs have lower wattages, they produce less light, but that is actually the opposite.

As stated above, LED lights are more efficient than all other types of bulbs as they require less watts to produce lumens. An example is a 60-WATT standard bulb produces the same number of Lumens as 9 WATT LED bulb. You might say, well the standard bulb has 60 WATTs so it must be more, but that is just not the case. To help dispel any confusion about LED bulb wattages compared to Halogen, CFL, or Incandescent bulb wattages, we’ve created a chart to easily show how many watts it takes to produce lumens for each light source type!
